Springsure is a lovely western Queensland town built in a fertile Valley surrounded by the impressive Mount Zamia and Virgin Rock.

The town gets its name thanks to the springs located in the creek and gullies at the time of settlement.

Springsure is a perfect place to base yourself for a visit the Central Highlands.

Not far is Lake Maraboon (Queensland’s second largest lake).  Head north-west and fossick around Queensland’s own Sapphire Gemfields or explore numerous nearby national parks.

Springsure is a great place to start or end an expedition to the incredible Carnarvon Gorge.

Enjoy a night or two in luxury accommodation and some hearty food at Dooleys Springsure before or after walking  some of the world’s most magnificent peaks and remote escarpments in Carnarvon Gorge.

If visiting, take the time to visit a few historic sites including the Staircase Range Cutting, built by Chinese immigrants in 1905 to pay tribute to the may early wagon teams that stopped in Springsure overnight on their way to Rockhampton to the Gulf and Barcoo country.  And, just south of town is the Old Rainworth Fort, built in 1862 as a way of defending early settlers.

Carnarvon National Park is certainly impressive but don’t miss some of the hundreds of kilometres of other magnificent adventure hiking, biking and 4WDriving trails in the area.

Nearby is the Minerva Hills National Park which is home to a series of spectacular lookouts which have panoramic vistas as far as the eye can see including the spectacular jagged peak view from Fred’s Gorge.
